The pickup line can become a pollution zone. EPA monitoring around schools has found elevated benzene, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and other toxic pollutants during afternoon pickup periods. Some vehicle air toxics are known or suspected carcinogens, and children’s developing lungs deserve cleaner air.
Turn the engine off when parked and encourage other families to do the same. Idling gives children pollution without taking anyone anywhere.
