Perishable food sitting warm for hours can become a bacterial incubator. Harmful bacteria multiply rapidly between 40°F and 140°F. USDA warns that school lunches containing meat, dairy, eggs or cut produce need reliable cold sources until lunchtime.
Use an insulated lunchbox with at least two cold sources around perishable foods. Don’t assume one tiny ice pack will protect everything until noon.
