A backpack should carry books—not punish a growing body. Oversized loads and poor fit can cause back, neck and shoulder pain and strain. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping backpack weight at no more than about 15% of a child’s body weight.
Use both straps, keep heavy items close to the back and remove unnecessary items every week.
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:30
Ask God to help you notice unnecessary burdens—physical and otherwise—that children may be carrying.
