A phone in bed is not harmless downtime. Screens can keep children mentally stimulated when the brain should be preparing for sleep, and high recreational screen use in teens is associated with poorer sleep, irregular sleep routines, anxiety and depressive symptoms. Tired brains struggle to learn and focus.
Create a screen cutoff before bedtime and charge phones outside the bedroom when possible.
