Heat can change the equation. A 2026 study analyzing foods cooked in plastic packaging found that several chemicals transferred into food more readily after cooking, while some appeared only after heating. Convenience should not automatically mean putting steaming food against plastic.
For hot meals, use glass, stainless steel or another heat-appropriate container instead of heating food directly in plastic.
