Parents should not assume they will smell marijuana if their child is using THC. The DEA warns that marijuana concentrates can be inhaled through vaping devices because vaping can be smokeless, sometimes odorless and easy to conceal. The problem is serious enough locally that Miami-Dade County Public Schools expanded vape sensors to all senior high schools after initially testing them at nine schools.
Tip of the Day
Do not rely on smell alone. Learn to recognize vape pens, cartridges and pods, and ask directly about THC vaping—not only smoking marijuana. Try questions such as: “Are students vaping THC at your school?” “Have you ever been offered a cartridge?” or “Do kids say certain vapes are harmless?”
